Unit converter

Translate a supplier’s units into yours. Keep thickness, grammage and mass in their own lanes.

01 / YOUR MEASUREMENT

What are you converting?

Examples are calculation inputs, not LTH product specifications. One mil means one thousandth of an inch, not one millimetre.

02 / CONVERTED VALUE

Same measurement. New units.

0.9842519685 mil

25 µm ≈ 0.9842519685 mil

How the conversion works

Result = value × source factor ÷ target factor

For thickness: 1 inch = 25.4 mm, and 1 mil = 25.4 µm. For grammage: 1 oz/yd² ≈ 33.90574747 g/m², using the avoirdupois ounce.

Example: 25 µm = 0.025 mm ≈ 0.984252 mil. Area conversions square the length factor; converting m² to ft² is not the same as converting metres to feet.

Unit definitions: NIST conversion factors.

Some units cannot be exchanged

  • Thickness is not grammage. Micrometres describe thickness; g/m² describes mass per area. A composite laminate cannot be converted using pure aluminium density.
  • Denier is not GSM. Denier is mass per yarn length, not mass per fabric area. Fabric construction and other layers are also needed.
  • Net is not gross. Changing kg to lb does not add cores, cartons or pallets.
