Metallized Mylar (PET) Film Manufacturer

Metallized mylar film is polyester film with a thin layer of aluminium deposited under vacuum. It is the standard reflective film for grow rooms, liners, insulation facings, decorative packaging and light control, and the base of our woven reflective laminates.

Also called aluminised PET, VMPET, metallised polyester film, silver mylar.

About this video

Metallized mylar film, also called VMPET, aluminised PET or silver mylar, is polyester film with a thin layer of aluminium deposited under vacuum. Leetaiheng Foil supplies it by the roll, and it is the base of our woven reflective laminates. This explainer shows the typical construction (vacuum-metallized aluminium on PET film); the grade options (mirror or matte finish, one or two metallized faces, thickness and any additional PET or PE layer), which are confirmed for the quoted construction; the typical uses of the roll goods by the factories that convert them; two buyer questions (is it the same as aluminium foil, and what reflectivity does it reach); and what to state when you specify a roll: thickness in microns, roll width and length, core diameter and the next converting step.

Supplied by the roll

Slit-width, document and sample availability are confirmed for the selected construction.

Standard metallised constructions

Data sheet TDS 5.9

Metallised PET (VMPET) constructions with no solid foil layer. Lighter and lower cost than foil laminates, with a slightly higher emissivity. Figures are typical values from our data sheet.

Roll width and format are confirmed per order. Clear, white, black, coloured and holographic PET grades are quoted per order; see the individual grade pages.

Processing route

Typical route: select the PET film and face finish, add a laminate layer only where the quoted construction requires it, then slit and rewind as roll goods. The written quotation identifies the steps that apply.

Confirmed in the quotation

  • Requested slit width, subject to confirmation within the applicable range
  • Roll length and core diameter confirmed in the quotation
  • Face, finish and layer structure confirmed against a sample or written specification
  • Applicable tolerances and documents confirmed for the quoted construction

Customization

  • Face colour and finish, subject to confirmation
  • Emboss pattern, where applicable
  • Width, roll length and core
  • Packaging and roll labels, subject to confirmation

Packaging and shipping

  • Roll winding and protective wrapping specified in the quotation
  • Carton or pallet configuration confirmed for roll size and destination
  • Customer part number added to labels when agreed
  • Shipping terms stated only in the written quotation

Grades

Mirror or matte finish, one or two specified faces, thickness and any additional PET or PE layer are confirmed for the quoted construction.

Typical uses

Grow-room and greenhouse wall lining, reflective liners for tents and enclosures, reflector and lamp components, insulation facings, gift and cosmetic packaging, balloons and decorative laminates.

How to specify

State the thickness in microns, roll width and length, core diameter and the next converting step, such as lamination or printing. Tell us whether one or both sides must be metallised and whether the surface will be embossed. A reference sample helps us confirm the closest quoted construction.

MOQ, lead time and samples

Sold as roll goods and slit to a confirmed width. MOQ, sample availability, lead time and available supporting documents are confirmed for the exact construction in the written quotation.

Frequently asked

What reflectivity does metallized film reach?

Reflectance depends on the film, finish and test method. We provide a figure only when a current report or data sheet identifies the method and the exact quoted construction.

Is it the same as aluminium foil?

No. Metallised PET uses a much thinner metal layer than aluminium foil. Ask us to confirm which roll construction suits your application.
